Summer-themed shows at Wynwood Arts District
Cool off from the heat indoors and check out these summer-themed shows in the Wynwood Arts District:
Bernice Steinbaum Gallery is celebrating its ninth year in Florida and its 32nd year in business this summer with plenty of humor and an invitation to enjoy the exhibit Nine Lives: Dog Days of Summer. Especially notable is Maria Magdalena Campos Pons' tryptic Nesting, above. Bernice Steinbaum Gallery, 3550 N. Miami Ave., Miami; 305-573-2700; www.bernicesteinbaumgallery.com.
Alejandra von Hartz Gallery invited six Miami artists to 'produce functional lighting objects and/or realistic schemes for ambient illumination.' The result is Luna Park, pretty 'cool' works by Daniel Arsham, Luis Gispert, Gean Moreno, Martin Oppel, Ernesto Oroza and Gavin Perry. Alejandra von Hartz Gallery, 2630 NW Second Ave.; 305-438-0220; info@alejandravonhartz.net.
The artist collective Artzform presents Hotter Than a Match Head, based on the 1966 hit song from the group Lovin' Spoonful. Artists exhibiting new work include Natasha Duwin, Sibel Kocabasi, Ray Paul, PJ Mills, Alette Simmons-Jimenez, Rosario Rivera-Bond, Rai Escale, Anja Marais, Ramon Williams, Guillermo Portieles, Donna Haynes, and Gisela Savdie. Artzform, 171 NW 23rd St., 305-572-0040; www.artzform.net.
It's summer, folks, so calling ahead for summer hours is recommended.
