Spaced out: MAM's tough-stuff exhibition is also oddly accessible

Miami Art Museum's current exhibition, Space as Medium, is a rigorously intellectual show: it covers the historical continuum of art that engages the physical space in which it is displayed. Curated by associate curator Rene Morales, the show moves beyond site-specificity and comments on the portability of art objects and the nature of visual enjoyment. Along the way, it introduces a hearty helping of social criticism and a rebellion against the sterility of the ``white cube'' that is the modern showcase for contemporary art.
