Florida Supercon is July 3-6 at the Miami Beach Convention Center.
The event will be attended by upwards of 40,000 fans and features more than 250 comic book, film, television, cosplay, entertainment, and anime guests.
Writer-director Stuart C. Paul is one of them. His award-winning short film, THE LORD OF CATAN, a dark comedy whose focal point is the bestselling game, Settlers of Catan, will be screened there.
One evening, a young married couple find themselves plunged into an epic struggle for dominance after the husband returns home to find his wife absorbed in her new favorite board game, Settlers of Catan. What begins as friendly competition soon becomes personal as old grudges and hidden wounds rise to the surface, sending the couple spiraling into a vortex of madness and destruction and pushing them inexorably toward their final reckoning, for the road to ruin is paved with sheep and there can be only one... Lord of Catan.
Amy Acker ( Person of Interest, Cabin in the Woods, Angel, Dollhouse) is “Sugar Monkey,” a young woman who comes home from work wanting nothing more than to curl up with her new obsession—the seemingly innocent but highly addictive board game, Settlers of Catan. To all appearances, the definition of sweetness, her magnetic smile hides depths of rage and volatility borne from the years of pet peeves and unspoken resentments that have accumulated over the course of her marriage.
Fran Kranz ( Dallas, Dollhouse, The Good Wife, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) is Sugar Monkey’s husband. An unemployed comic artist and manchild of the highest order, he couldn’t pay a bill on time to save his life, but he takes his games seriously. He has always been able to make his wife laugh--though lately, the joke has been wearing thin. He and his wife are either perfect complements or an apocalyptic mismatch.
Writer-Director Stuart C. Paul received his BFA in Screenwriting from the USC School of Cinema-Television. His television pilot, Mankind, a re-telling of Cain and Abel set against the backdrop of the extinction of the Neanderthals, sold to NBC/Universal.
On the publishing side, his six-issue comic series Ides of Blood, which chronicles the true story of vampires assassinating Julius Caesar, was published by DC Comics and nominated for multiple Comic Buyers Guide Fan Awards including Favorite Writer, Favorite Issue and Favorite Limited Series.
Moving from comics to film, he penned the film adaptation of Whitley Strieber's graphic novel The Nye Incidents for RKO Productions with Todd Lincoln attached to direct. Most recently, his sci-spy thriller Convergence found a place on the 2012 Hit List. He founded Hamster Valhalla, a production company designed exclusively to produce whatever content he bloody well feels like in film and comics. He is repped at Circle of Confusion and CAA. The Lord of Catan is his first film.
