Carmencita, te felicito por tu "open letter".Elocuentemente pudistes expresar la verdad sobre nosotros.El documental de CNBC esconde la verdad sobre las causas de nuesra salida y usa su ventana para promover a un sistema que es obsoleto.

Carmencita, Thanks for the great letter expressing how many of us feel after watching Escape from Havana on CNBC. What were we expecting from NBC? We should have known they have their own "political agenda". They used the Pedro Pan experience to sell their own agenda regarding Cuba and Operation Pedro Pan to the American people. They must have done a lot of "research" to come up with a handful of Pedro Panes to agree with how they wanted to portray Operation Pedro Pan. I agree we should contact CNBC/NBC to express our own feelings about Operation Pedro Pan and Cuba. Cariños, Delfin Diaz

OPEN LETTER TO CNBC: As a Pedropan myself, I was deeply upset by the way our story was portrayed last night. Many things were left out like the GENEROSITY of the U.S. people, for example. Other things, like the ideas of Torres' book and research were given as valid and not as one person's view of the matter. Her point that our parents were scared by the "fake" Patria Potestad law circulated by CIA operatives was insulting to all pedropans and their parents. That was NOT the reason behind our parents sending us here. The reason was our parent's real and valid fear of a country that was upside down, with the all schools closed, the clergy and nuns expelled, the firing squads, the pressure for the kids to join the "Pioneers" or "Juventud Rebelde" as a way to indoctrinate them, the sending kids to the countryside to "alfabetize", etc. That was why our parents had to take that most difficult decision. The statement that we were "pawns" for the US government was insulting too. The documentary "The lost apple" was not done to scare the people of Latin America but to look for scholarships and foster parents for the growing amount of children getting out of Cuba. Even if it was later used for the purpose of showing that Comunism is BAD, I am sorry to tell you that Comunism has been a disaster in every country that has been implemented, so IT IS BAD!!!!!! Our story is one of courage and love from our parents, generosity and understanding by the US people and resilience and determination on the part of us pedropans. So sorry to see that you have taken it to push a political agenda as the lifting of the embargo or trips to Cuba. Those themes are very valid but it would have been more honest to use them by themselves in another documentary. Using our story to push political agendas very far away from pedropans’ feelings makes you "pawns" yourselves from the Castro regime. Shame on you!!!!!!

MY PARENTS HAD THE COURAGE TO SEND ME AWAY TO SAVE ME FROM A COMUNIST'S REGIME THAT WOULD TAKE MY FREEDOM AND MY SPIRITUAL BELIEFS AWAY. I THANK THEM WITH ALL MY HEART FOR HAVING THE COURAGE TO DO SO. I LOVE YOU PAPI AND MAMI!!!

Message by Carmencita Romanach | May 28th 2010

Maria del Carmen says: GRACIAS PAPI Y MAMI POR SALVARME DE UN REGIMEN COMUNISTA QUE NO RESPETA LA LIBERTAD. TUVIERON CORAJE Y VALOR PARA HACER ESTE SACRIFICIO POR MI.
