Thanks for your prompt reply, Rafael. No, I was never relocated anywhere as a Pedro Pan. I spent 8 months in the south Dade camps, mostly Florida City, before being reunited with members of my family. I was simply curious because in all my readings and research about Operation Padro Pan I had never come across any Pedro Pan relocations to orphanages in the St. Louis area. After reading your reply, I was able to find a very large catholic orphanage in the St. Louis area that was originally named Saint Joseph's Boys'Orphan Asylum and later renamed St. Joseph's Home for Boys. After closing, some of its structures and grounds were taken over by St. Mary's High School. Of the old structures, it would appear that only the chapel survived. If you provide me with an email address where to forward the picture, perhaps you could look at it and tell if you remember it. By the way, there's a 2010 magazine article about the bell at the former Brothers of the Holy Rosary monastery in Sparks, NV, where you and other Pedro Pan children were sent for foster home placement. In case you might be interested, you can find the link to the article at www.facebook.com/oppgi. Thanks once again and best regards, José Antonio Amaro Reyes.

Rafael, do you by any chance recall the name of the orphanage you were sent in Saint Louis, Missouri? Best regards and thanks, José Antonio Amaro Reyes.

Hello Rafael.... Welcome to the Pedro Pan Network. I arrived in Kendall on Oct 13th, 1961 and a week later got shipped to Matecumbe. Spent over a month in Matecumbe until they sent me to an orphanage in Helena, Montana. Perhaps we ran into each other in Matecumbe a time or two. You are welcome to check my story. Take care.

Hola, Rafael. I see you are in central Florida. I wonder if you attended the reunion that Justo Martinez and Susy Rodriguez organized last year in the spring? I was there and may have met you then. The Lourdes M that is in my contacted list is not your sister. I looked up your sister and she has not registered yet. She was quite little when she arrived. It seems like most of the younger ones remember even less about those days. If you can, encourage her to register and write what she remembers about her story. Glad to hear you have mended your ways and are behaving better. I guess we Pedro Pan kids did grow up after all. Be well.

Ah, Rafaelillo: I smiled, but my heart ached for you as I read about how you ran away and how you were put in that bus back to Florida. What a long and lonely ride that must have been! I wonder if the name Rafael automatically confers mischievousness to little boys, as I have a brother by that name who has a knack for getting in some kind of trouble wherever he goes. Welcome to the Pedro Pan network, your PP sister, Yoli Cardenas
