Yolanda's Story

A story teller once told me that all stories begin in the middle. As I write this, the middle of my story has 17 years on one side and 47 on the other. For thousands of us Pedro Pan children, the midd...

Yolanda, thank you for your note. Perhaps you remember my brother Rafael who lived in Albuquerque for many years and graduated from UNM. I was there for only three years and then moved to California with my parents. It was a very interesting and sad experience leaving the country at our age, but positive in the end. I still keep in contact with some Cuban in Albuquerque like father Fernando Rubio. I see that you are in contact with him as well. Greetings, Zoraida

I guess in the hurried communications of our discoveries, we neglect to see the stories as well as hear them. I didn't realize you were 17 when you arrived here. Seems like most of the kids had a sibling. Only once in a while do I see the story of a Pedro Pan who came over alone. You were fortunate to have had the two girls waiting for you. In your case, at 17, reality was "in your face" where in my case, I floated from one place to another in a state of shock not knowing what was what. Just another realization esposed to me by this unique site. Hope you and Myra have enjoyed each other. Carinos -Mary

Hi Yoli! I am nominating you as the official Pedro Pan welcoming committee! You have such a nack for making the Pedro Panes feel welcome and you know how to break the ice. All in favor....? Carinos, -Mary

Hola Yoli, tomorrow will be a fine day.

Consuegrita. I hope you are taking advantage of your morning break. Did you hear from Myra when she arrived in Seattle? I'm feeling much better this morning...that was stupid yesterday and I was upset at myself. Catch you later.
