Edith, thank you for your nice note. Once again I am deeply moved to see yet another testimonial of how many of us blocked many of our memories from those days. I'm thinking that it is the brain's mechanism to help us deal with traumatic events such as it was to suddenly leave our families, lose our country, and start from zero in a strange place surrounded by strangers. Being so young and innocent we were not exactly prepared for it, but the resiliency of our youth gave us a survival advantage. Now that we know how it all turned out, both for better or for worse, our minds feel not only safer in bringing back the memories, but even eager to reclaim the good parts of those days, that in some ways turned out to be, like you say, our “good old days.” I can see now that just about all of us have recognized that the blessings in our ordeal came in the people we shared the experience with. I only kept in touch with two or three people, but now that we are finding one another again in this website, I feel like just about everyone who was in similar circumstances is certainly a very special friend. Like you, I’ve lived away from a Cuban environment, but in my heart I was never disconnected, even when I tried to forget to ease the pain. –I see that you lived in SC also. We’ll have to trade notes on that someday. If you wish, write me at my e-mail address that appears in my profile.– I will do everything possible to attend one of the Pedro Pan reunions to put faces and names together. I also envision us putting our memories back like beads strung together to make a beautiful necklace that decorates and identifies us all as part of a very special group. Hope to see you there! Yolanda

Hi Edith, I read your letter to Yolanda, your memories must be coming back,Zoe Carvajal was in our room, she was so funny remember?,I met her again in N.O.around 1967 and then lost track of her,she lives here in Miami. I never saw anybody else except Yolanda Cardenas and Vidal Lopez who came to see me in NO in 1970. I still keep a couple of your letters you wrote me in Albuquerque, it was a hard time for me and your writtings kept me going, like when you arrived in Florida City I used to tell you, everything will be ok soon. They were hard and emotional moments that is why they keep coming back. You know you are also welcome to my house in Miami anytime,I will send you an email with my address. Love, Carmen

Hola, Edie.

Dear Edith, Maybe you don't remember me and that it's ok because like you said, our memories play tricks, and some names, and not others, come to mind. I was at Casa Castillo and went to Inmaculada. I remember you since you're such a nice person!!! Whenever you've a moment send me an email and I'll tell you about the school and what we're doing to meet every now and then. Cariños, Teresita

Dear Edith,so many years have passed and we found each other again,I always remembered you,it was hard leaving my Florida City friends,we were very closed, that is why I left you my precious possesions when I left for Albuquerque "my colchoneta and my locker".We wrote each other for some time and then we lost track.I moved to New Orleans with my parents and then to Miami where I live since 1977. I wrote you before you joined the Pedro Pan Database just in case you would find me.I will email you soon.Such beautiful story you have and I am not surprised you have brilliant children. Love, Carmen

Edith, Welcome to the Pedro Pan Database. Your story is very moving, not fuzzy at all. And the part about your daughter and 9-11. Amazing.
