Clara N's Story
I can never forget the day that my sister Norma and I came to the USA. It was Good Friday, 1962. I remember my friends coming to my house and taking pictures before we left for the airport in Havana. It was exiting but very sad because my mother and brother had to remain in Cuba. My brother came five months later but my mother stayed behind for five long years. I stayed with my sister at a friend's home in Miami until were sent to New York City a week later. That "Good Friday" it's still so vivid in my mind, even, eating the very delicious ham sandwich that was given to us in the airplane. I remember how hard it was asking the stewardess for a glass of water using my Mr. Horrin-English language pronunciation of Cuban schools. Today, I am glad to say that "It was all worth while"
