Ramon arrived in Camp Matecumbe at age 12 on March 4, 1962.
Ramon Antolin Mendez, family man and entrepreneur, 63, of Tampa passed away on December 19, 2012. Mr. Mendez was preceded in death by his father Ovidio Mendez; his brother Ovidio Mendez, M.D.; his nephew Ovidio Mendez, Jr.; and his aunt Maria Teresa Diaz. He will be missed greatly by his loving wife Carmen, his daughter Carmen Dulce, and his son Mario Luis; his mother Ledia Mendez; sister Rosa Maria Couret and husband Jose; uncle Pedro Diaz; nieces and nephews; Jose, Mandy, Jose Daniel, and Gabriella Couret; Lissette, Gilbert, and Bella Rosa Perera; Ricardo, Laura, and Alejandro Couret; Daniel Mendez; Edward, Jessica, Mia, and Bryn Mendez. Originally from Cuba, he immigrated to the United States at the age of 12 through Operation Pedro Pan. He is an Alumnus of Tampa Catholic High School and The University of Tampa where he received a Business Administration degree. First and foremost, he was a family man. He was a wonderful husband and father, a great brother and a beloved uncle. He was the founder and owner of The Havana Village Sandwich Shop and West Tampa Door as well as a respected member of the Tampa business community. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. The family will receive visitors at the Garden of Memories 4207 East Lake Avenue, Tampa.
Services will begin at 1:00pm after which he will be laid to rest.
