Flavia G Garcia Hernandez
Flavia G's Story
I arrived when I was 10 years old. I had never before been separated from my parents. I did not stop crying for the first two weeks I spent in Florida City. Three months later, through the efforts of Madre Mayo, the Mother Superior of The School of the Sacred Heart in Havana, I was placed with a Cuban family in Miami, near St Peter and Paul Church, Mr. and Mrs. Camilo and Rosa Valdes. I am forever gratefull to them for their warm welcome into their family. My parents arrived five years later. They, again, had to make the difficult choice of leaving a child, this time my brother, behind. They did not see him again for thirteen years until our family was finally reunited in 1980. I am forever gratefull to all the people who contributed to the Pedro Pan Operation, their efforts gave me the oportunity of being who I am today.
