ITEM OF THE DAY: Back in 1961, Pedro Pan Mario Garcia had dreams of becoming an actor in Cuba and made an appearance in a movie called "The Young Rebel." Days after shooting ended, his parents thankfully put him on plane to Miami as a Pedro Pan. Today, Garcia is newspaper design guru. To read his story and see a clip of the movie go to http://www.garciamedia.com/blog.

Excerpt from a Pedro Pan story: "To the many American families who sheltered Pedro Pans like me, a belated and public thank you. I have tried to “pay it forward” along my life but my debt of gratitude will always remain. - Vicky del Rio

To All Pedro Pans: As you can see, we easily reached the 800 registered Pedro Pans mark. The honor goes to Omaira Plasencia Vinas, who arrived on July 20, 1962. Now on to the 900 registered goal.

"Pedro" You wrote: >Yolanda, We have read hundreds of stories on this database; yours is one of the most eloquent and touching. All Pedro Pans should read it. One question: Where's Juanito?< Thank you for the compliment on my story. Believe me, I had to leave out quite a bit, as you can imagine. I actually edited later it to include the note that I lost track of Juanito completely. He was still very little when his relatives took him out of the camp. I found his name in the database: Juan O'Farril. He has not registered. The date of his arrival is wrong, like it also was in my record when I checked in. I remember googling him sometime back, but didn't come up with anything. I should try it again. I hope that as the word of this website gets out, he'll turn up. I think that the younger the kids were when they left Cuba, the less likely they are to remember much and to even want to remember. One thing is clear to me from reading the stories: just about all of us put it all away from our consciousness for a long time. It has taken that certain "maturity" kicked in before we tackled the question of WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED TO ME and WHY???!!! Keep up the good work. This is a tremendous undertaking. yo

Administrator, Thank you for the opportunity to register and look at some of these stories. I have a story to tell but will wait until the time is right. Many stories show the great sadness that we felt and some show anger that some have not forgotten. Again thank you for this opportunity to share. Benito
