The following message was sent to the Herald Network Administrator. Hope Ms. Homan finds some of her Pedro Pan dear friends. "Hello my parents fostered 21 Pedro Pan kids starting when I was 6, my dad was a Pan Am employee & the first girl he brought home was named Nancy Diaz, who i could not find looking on your site, her parents never came for her & my parents almost succeeded in adopting her when she was 15, her evil aunt came and blocked my parents from finalizing the abdoption she was taken to NY but reunited with us years later and we still consider ourselves sisters, all of the other kids parents did come (or that is what I was told) but I have always wondered how they were, I know it's a million to one that they would remember my parents George & Dorothy Homan I often thought they would remember our name because it was written on the front of the house by the front door ( 441 Homan ) we lived on Minola Drive in Miami Springs, my Dad spoke Spanish as he worked a few yrs for PA in Nicaragua he did all the talking and my mom all the cooking, it would be great to connect with the kids who lived with us, any suggestions ?? Thanks" Connie Homan-Masarik Message by Connie Homan-Masarik | imapokie@bellsouth.net

ANNOUNCEMENT: We are glad to announce that the State of Florida has designated the site of the former Catholic Welfare Bureau's Florida City Camp for Operation Pedro Pan's unaccompanied Cuban refugee children a State of Florida Heritage Landmark. "The Florida Historical Marker Program recognizes historic resources, persons and events that are significant in the areas of architecture, archaeology, Florida history and traditional culture by promoting the placing of historic markers and plaques at sites of historical and visual interest to visitors. The purpose of the program is to increase public awareness of the rich cultural heritage of the state and to enhance the enjoyment of historic sites in Florida by its citizens and tourists" (Florida Department of State/Department of Historical Resources). The two-year application process, sponsored by Operation Pedro Pan Group Inc.(OPPGI), was carried out through the research and writing efforts of María del Carmen Valdivia Martínez (Carmen), Susana Garrandés González (Susy), and José Antonio Amaro Reyes. A Florida State historical marker, written in both English and Spanish, will be placed on the camp's site in recognition of its contribution to the history and cultural heritage of the state and the nation. A ceremony is planned for the unveiling of the marker in the spring of 2012. The exact date will be made public well in advance to ensure maximum attendance. We look forward to seeing you in the City of Florida City in the spring! Read more here: http://www.miamiherald.com/cgi-bin/pedropan/profile/-1#storylink=cpy
