SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Chip maker Altera Corp. said Tuesday that Michael Nevens has joined its board of directors.

The company said Nevens previously worked for 22 years in various management positions at the consulting group McKinsey & Co.

Shares of Altera rose 20 cents to close Tuesday at $20.47.
