WHAT: Motorola Droid, sold by Verizon
FEATURES: Runs on Google's Android 2.0 mobile operating system. Has 16 gigabytes of memory, a 5-megapixel camera with flash and options for photo effects, and slides open to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard.
PRICE: $199.99, after rebate and new 2-year contract
UPS: It has an easy to understand and customizable interface with a large app store -- not as large as the iPhone's app selection, but it certainly trumps the iPhone when it comes to the camera.
Downs: Typing on the keyboard isn't the best because the keys are so flat -- I found myself using my nails to type. But it's not a big downer if you're good with a touch-screen because it gives users the option to use the screen keyboard.
I found it slightly annoying to press the navigation keys (such as back, home, search) because it didn't always respond like I expected it to -- or it would vibrate so you think it responded but sometimes it would delay or not respond. But that was pretty infrequent.
BOTTOM LINE: It doesn't have my dream keyboard, but other than that it's a solid smartphone. If you've been holding off on the iPhone cause you wanted to stick with Verizon, you'll be pleased with the Droid.
