State gives $250K in international business grants

Grants from Enterprise Florida to promote international business include $150,000 to the Beacon Council and $100,000 to the Miami-based Florida Foreign Trade Association.

Funds to the Beacon Council, Miami-Dade's economic development arm, will be used for a proposed program to promote the South Florida region in Europe, focusing on France, Spain, Italy and Germany. The FFTA grant will expand the group's ability to bring trade mission delegates to Florida cities.

The announcement comes as Enterprise Florida, the state's economic development organization, contends with a $600,000 smaller budget for the 2008-09 year.
