Celebrity fragrances boost sales for Parlux

Strong department store sales of fragrances by Jessica Simpson and Paris Hilton helped Parlux (PARL) post an estimated 43 percent increase in second-quarter sales.

The Fort Lauderdale fragrance company announced that net sales for the quarter ending Sept. 30 are estimated to be $53 million, compared with $37 million during the same period last year.

U.S. department store sales during the period were up about 190 percent, while sales to international customers increased 51 percent.

The U.S. department store sales include about $6.5 million from the sale of Jessica Simpson's Fancy, which launched in August, and about $1.5 million for Paris Hilton's Fairy Dust, which began shipping late last month.

At the same time, the company's sales to retailer

Perfumania for the first six months of the year fell to

$20 million, down from $30 million the previous year.

The area of the company's business that suffered was sales to Perfumania retailer, which for the first six months of the year were $30 million down from $20 million during the previous year.
