Univisión Radio official pleads guilty to embezzlement

jweaver@MiamiHerald.com

The business manager for Coral Gables-based Univisión Radio Florida pleaded guilty in federal court Thursday to embezzling about $550,000 from his employer.

Anselmo ``Sam'' Potter, 43, pleaded guilty to all six counts of wire fraud. He faces between two and four years in prison at his sentencing on Dec. 30 before U.S. District Judge Paul Huck.

Potter embezzled the money between December 2004 and January 2009 from the Spanish-language radio broadcaster by writing more than 200 unauthorized checks and forging the signature of his supervisor, Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Levi said. He used a special account to write the checks to himself and falsified bank statements to conceal the theft, Levi said.

He then e-mailed the fabricated statements to Univisión Radio's headquarters in Dallas.
