Stock futures point to modestly lower open

NEW YORK -- Stock futures are pointing to a modestly lower opening as investors sort through another round of economic data and retail earnings.
Overseas markets retreated slightly Tuesday after big gains the previous day.
Investors are sifting through earnings from large retailers, looking for signs of strength in consumers. A report showing a sharp rebound in retail sales helped push major indexes higher on Monday.
Traders are also awaiting reports on industrial production and inflation for glimpses of recovery.
Dow Jones industrial average futures are down 7, or 0.1 percent, at 10,361. Standard & Poor's 500 index futures are down 1.20, or 0.1 percent, at 1,105.10, while Nasdaq 100 index futures are down 2.00, or 0.1 percent, at 1801.50.
