Miami-based Ryder System sees profits, revenue fall

Miami Herald Staff and Wire Report

Trucking and logistics company Ryder System said profits and revenue fell in the third quarter because of lower fuel prices and volume and unfavorable foreign exchange rate movements.

Profit was $24 million, or 43 cents per share, compared to $70.2 million, or $1.24 per share in the same period of 2008, the Miami-based company said in a press release.

Revenue fell 20 percent to $1.3 billion. Operating cashflow fell 15 percent to 758.8 million.

Free cash flow from continuing operations grew 70 percent to $452.1 million, primarily because of lower net cash paid for capital expenditures.
