High-level promotions and new hires in South Florida

ACCOUNTING

Grant Thornton has named Eric Coombs manager corporate tax services. He was previously a senior associate in corporate tax services with Grant Thornton. He will work from the firm's Miami and Fort Lauderdale offices.

BANKING/FINANCE

Scott Kellett, president of Bank of Florida Trust, has been promoted to president and chief executive of the wealth-management company. Kellett joined Bank of Florida Trust in 2005 as president of its West Coast

division.

BWC Mortgage Bankers, a division of Benworth Capital Partners, has appointed of R. Kenneth Bluh, as vice president in charge of developing the company's reverse mortgage department.

CHAMBERS

Javier Cervera, has been named chairman of the Latin American Business Association's board of directors. Cervera is chief executive of Cervera Holdings, a Miami-based real estate company that focuses on condo-conversions, land and rental property acquisitions in South Florida.

CONSTRUCTION

Alaina Waas-Rojas has been named vice president of field operations for Waas Construction. Waas-Rojas has been with Waas since 2003.

The Builders Association of South Florida has named Fernando Martinez as president and Marianna Perez as vice president. Martinez is currently a partner at Caribe Homes and an active Realtor with Caribe Realty. Perez currently serves as manager and senior vice president of the Miami-Dade County market for commercial real estate at City National Bank of Florida.

EDUCATION

Neil Katz has been appointed as chair of Nova Southeastern University's department of conflict analysis and resolution and professor of social science. Katz was previously director of conflict resolution programs at the Maxwell School of Citizenship of Syracuse University.

ENTERTAINMENT

Ken Dunn has been appointed interim president and general manager of Gulfstream Park, succeeding Bill Murphy, who resigned from those positions last Thursday. Dunn has more than 40 years of experience in the thoroughbred horse racing industry.

HEALTHCARE

Francis Guasp, formerly billing and compliance manager at Avisena, has joined CareCloud as the firm's director of billing.

Matrix Home Care has appointed of Alexander Fiuza as director of client services for Miami-Dade and Broward counties. Prior to joining Matrix, Fiuza was director of community services for Catholic Hospice in Miami.

HOSPITALS

The board of commissioners for the North Broward Hospital District has named Rhonda Calhoun, executive director of the Broward League of Cities, as the board's chair. Dan Gordon, certified property casualty underwriter with Bateman, Gordon and Sands, is now vice chair. Aventura Hospital and Medical Center has appointed Alisa L. Bert as chief financial officer. Bert previously served as chief financial officer at two HCA facilities: University Hospital in Tamarac and Westside Regional Medical Center in Plantation.

INSURANCE Al Smith has joined MDW Insurance Group of Coral Gables as senior vice president and director of lines marketing. Prior to joining MDW, Smith was a senior account executive with Tanenbaum Harber of Florida in Miramar.

LAW

Glantz & Glantz, P.A., has hired of Norman B. Getson as supervising attorney for the estate planning, probate and guardianship department. Getson previously ran his own law firm in Hollywood.

Stearns Weaver Miller has appointed Darrell Payne as shareholder and Daya Nathan as an associate in the firm's litigation department. Robert Jacobowitz will join the trusts and estates department as a shareholder.

Jacoby & Meyers Law Offices, a personal injury law firm, has opened a new Miami office and has becomed affiliated with trial lawyer Sarah Steinbaum.

MANUFACTURING

Heys USA, a manufacturer of fashion luggage, has appointed Gary Perella as national sales manager. Perella previously held senior sales management positions at Atlantic Luggage.

NONPROFIT

Voices For Children Foundation, the fundraising arm of the 11th Judicial Circuit Guardian Ad Lite Program, welcomes its two newest board members, Vince Castro and Lourdes M. Lameran. Lameran is the national business development manager for The Miami Herald Media Co.

Isabelle Benditte has joined South Florida Urban Ministries as director of development. She will be responsible for overall fundraising efforts. Prior to joining SFLUM, Isabelle was manager of special events for Royal Caribbean Cruises.

REAL ESTATE

The Realtor Association of Miami-Dade County has named Victor Ulloa president, Ernesto Vega president elect and Jack H. Levine secretary treasurer of its board of directors for 2010.
