Inaugurated in 1997 by The Miami Herald, the Americas Conference® is the region's premier business and political forum on Latin America and the Caribbean. Last year, over 550 international executives and government leaders attended. The Miami Herald's credibility and extensive contacts have been critical factors in the conference's success.

The Americas Conference® welcomed The World Bank as a programming partner in 2008. The two organizations combine their efforts to plan the Americas Conference® leveraging their extensive contacts in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Exile activist arrested in alleged fraud

Antonio “Tony” Calatayud, a well known Cuban exile activist and radio commentator, has been arrested on a complaint that he defrauded five South Florida people out of more than $1 million with promises of cheap purchases of distressed real estate properties.
