Packing spare batteries for airline flights . . .

With summer almost here, note that if you plan to fly with electronic equipment, the rules regarding packing spare batteries in your checked luggage have changed. Lithium batteries must now be placed in your carry-on bag, and if you pack a device containing batteries, the U.S. Department of Transportation says it must be secured against activation by locking the switch in the ''off'' position.

There's no limit to the number of batteries you can carry on if they're for personal use.
