Business Plan Challenge Student Contest

Angel Alvarez, chief executive of ABB CONCISE of Coral Springs, which has more than 400 employees and is the nation's largest distributor of contacts and ophthalmic lenses. He was the founder and chief executive of ABB Optical NA, which later merged into ABB CONCISE. He is also a judge and mentor for NFTE South Florida.

Stephen W. Colyer, director of Miami Dade College's Minority Export Training Program, which trains small agribusiness firms on how to export. He helped launch KidVentures, NFTE South Florida's predecessor, in 1999, and is currently a NFTE mentor. He has been involved in creating a college-wide entrepreneurship program for Miami Dade College.

Francisco J. González, who heads Adorno & Yoss' International Services Group and is a member of the Corporate, Securities and Transactional Department, specializing in corporate finance, privatization and asset restructuring. The NFTE South Florida mentor is helping the group's national student winner, Jessica Cervantes, with her patent application.

Stewart A. Merkin, who has practiced business, corporate and securities law in Miami since 1974 and has had his own firm since 1978. He is former chairman of the board for NFTE South Florida, a board member of the Academy of Finance of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools and a member of the Entrepreneurial Studies Work Group of Miami Dade College.

Robert A. Stamen, a lawyer with Packman, Neuwahl & Rosenberg, specializing in estate planning, pension and profit-sharing plans, individual income taxation and corporation law. He is also a certified public accountant in Florida and an instructor at Florida International University. He is chairman of the NFTE South Florida advisory board and helped launch KidVentures.
