Chiefs bring on former Payton winner

The Kansas City Chiefs agreed to terms with 17 rookie free agents on Friday, including former Walter Payton Award winner Ricky Santos.

Santos, a quarterback from New Hampshire, won the award presented by The Sports Network to the top player in the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly I-AA) in 2006 as a junior.

In 50 games at New Hampshire, Santos threw for 13,212 yards with 123 touchdowns and 33 interceptions.

The Chiefs also agreed to terms with wide receivers Jabari Arthur, Sean Bailey and Luke Swan, defensive ends Johnny Dingle, Jason Parker and Jonal Saint-Dic, defensive tackles Derek Lokey and Maurice Murray, guards Ian-Yates Cunningham and Chris McDuffie,running back Kalvin McRae, linebacker Steve Octavien, safety Ron Girault, cornerback Maurice Leggett, fullback Mike Cox and kicker Connor Barth.
