77-year-old Pinellas Co. man fights back during break-in

Authorities say a 77-year-old central Florida man used a wrench to fight off a 22-year-old woman during an attempted robbery.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, Walter Funk discovered Funk discovered Nicole Mason-Suares in his home Saturday morning after his 81-year-old wife, Ingebord, heard noises.

Authorities say Mason-Suares reached for a knife during a struggle with Funk, but he overpowered her and held her on the ground until deputies arrived at the home.

Mason-Suares has been charged with armed burglary, battery on a person over 65 and possession of a burglary tools. She was taken to a hospital with injuries that weren't life threatening.

Funk refused medical treatment at his home, saying he would take himself to a hospital.
