Fort Lauderdale public defender hopeful arrested with drugs

The Associated Press

A Fort Lauderdale lawyer and candidate to head the Broward County public defender's office is facing drug charges after Tallahassee airport security said they found cocaine in his jacket.

Transportation Security Administration officials stopped Gary S. Ostrow at the Tallahassee airport May 2. They said they found a small vial of cocaine in his jacket pocket during a security X-ray screening.

Records show the 52-year-old Republican filed papers that day to run for Broward County public defender.

Ostrow didn't return a phone message seeking comment.
