Second-seeded Fernando Gonzalez of Chile outlasted Simone Bolelli to win the clay-court BMW Open on Sunday.

Gonzalez needed just over 2 1/2 hours to down the unseeded Italian in three sets, 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (4-7), 6-3.

Gonzalez had an opportunity to win in straight sets but couldn't convert two match points in the second set.

Gonzalez broke for the first time in the fifth game of the third set and then saved two break points in the next game before closing things out with another break in the ninth game.

"It was really tough and he was playing very good tennis," Gonzalez said. "I had two match points in the second set but I am happy the way I did it. I had three really close matches during the week. I was fighting a lot and this is really good for my tennis and going to increase my confidence. I am really happy the way I was fighting and it was a mental test for me, and I passed it."

It was the second marathon in a row for Bolelli, who took over three hours to upset top-seeded Paul-Henri Mathieu and reach his first career ATP final in the semis on Saturday.

"Today was very tight and we have similar games and we pushed each other with our forehands," Bolelli said. "It was tight and close and I saved two match points in the second set. I tried to win the match in the third but he was too good. It was close but I am happy to reach my first ATP final."

Gonzalez, who won his 10th career title, moved to 2-0 all-time versus Bolelli and pocketed $90,000 for his win.

"It's really big for me and I am getting older so I will try to enjoy it a little bit," Gonzalez said of his 10th title. "You never know when it's going to be your last title. I am having fun out there and I am going to enjoy the moment."
