HARDBALL
TRAINING CENTER
On May 3, Hardball Baseball/Hardball Training Center presented awards to the winners of the local Pitch, Hit and Run competition, sponsored by Major League Baseball and Aquafina.
Pitch, Hit and Run is the official skills competition of Major League Baseball. This grass-roots program is designed to provide players with an opportunity to participate in a competition that recognizes individual excellence in baseball skills. The competition was held on March 14 and April 12.
Nearly 100 boys and girls ages 7-14 participated. The following participants won their respective age groups:
7-8 Age Division
All Around Champions: Christian Tinoco and Luis Diaz.
Pitch Champions: Erin Bakes, Grant Foreman, Christian Tinoco, Mason Winkler and Brandon Cabrera.
Hit Champions: Erin Bakes and Kevin Cardentey.
Run Champions: Kiley Kross and Nicolas Gonzalez.
9-10 Age Division
All Around Champions: Edgar Pages and Gardner Blackburn.
Pitch Champions: Edgar Pages, Pedro Pages, Gardner Blackburn and Danny Worcester.
Hit Champions: Edgar Pages and Hugh Lowson.
Run Champions: Maximilian Pinto and Gardner Blackburn.
11-12 Age Division
All Around Champions: Jake Oliver and John Luis Gonzalez.
Pitch Champions: Kyle Toister and John Luis Gonzalez.
Hit Champions: Julian Diaz and Carlos Davila.
Run Champions: Ryan Berg and John Luis Gonzalez.
13-14 Age Division
All Around Champions: Colin Zargham and John Chadwell.
Pitch Champions: Colin Zargham, Tristan Lewis, William Vanegas, Ryan Wilcox, Faraaz Kassim, Daniel Lann, John Chadwell and Dylan Grady.
Hit Champions: Colin Zargham and Ryan Wilcox.
Run Champions: Colin Zargham and John Chadwell.

Atom 1 National
The Dodgers beat the Reds 18-15 and the Giants 15-6 to advance to the championship game against the Cubs.
The Dodgers came back from an early 10-0 deficit to defeat the Cubs 21-13 for the championship. On offense, Christian Tinoco had three triples and five RBI. Nicholas Ingold hit a pair of doubles, a triple and had four RBI. Chad Girnun scored three runs and drove in four. Steven Lazar tripled with three RBI. Tony Comellas had a triple and one RBI. Tyler Everett homered and drove in three runs. Andrew Swerdlow scored three runs and had one RBI. Other outstanding players include Brian Duffie, Eric McCarthy, John Arias and Colin Hayes.
Bantam I
The Cubs came back in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the Mets 9-9. Quinn Kotun earned the game ball for the Cubs. Ralph Rodriguez scored the tying run. Nathan Henrique earned the defensive game ball for plays in the field. Kyle Youmans also performed well. For the Mets, Jonathan Pedrayes played well on defense.
The Cubs shut out the Braves 12-0. Garret Huber earned the game ball and went 3 for 3 with three RBI. Justin Villena also earned a game ball and went 2 for 2 with two RBI. Pitchers Kyle Youmans and Ben Kellogg combined to strike out 10 batters and allowed only one hit.
The Cubs beat the Pirates 13-6. For the Cubs, Nick Bermudez went 1 for 2 with one RBI, one run and four putouts. Ralph Rodriguez went 1 for 2 with two runs. Nathan Henrique went 2 for 3 with two RBI and two runs. Hank Bohn went 1 for 2 with one RBI and two runs. Pitchers Kyle Youmans, Ben Kellogg and Alexander Acevedo combined for 13 strikeouts and four walks in seven innings. Justin Kross also played well.
Bantam II
The Yankees beat the White Sox 13-6. For the Yankees, David Lanster went 3 for 3 with three doubles, three runs scored and three RBI. Sean Hurst went 2 for 2 with two runs scored and three RBI. James Barrios scored three runs. Alex Hartnett had three RBI. Other outstanding players included Kyle Toister, Alec Abraham, Kevin Masso and Matt Mourin. For the White Sox, Carter Nash went 3 for 4 with a home run and double, Eddie Cutillas went 2 for 2, and David Oliveres went 2 for 4 with a double and four RBI.
The Blue Jays beat the Twins 13-10. Brent Teller, Jacob Bryan and Jon Haywood pitched for the Jays, while Connor Chisolm, Alex Moztarzadeh and Alex Jaramillo pitched for the Twins. The Jays led 2-0 after the first inning with a two-run single by Bryan, scoring Teller and Ian Tornquist. Patrick Bean had an RBI double. Tornquist, Teller, Haywood, Perry Wilson, Erick Lopez and Nick Salazar each had singles. Bryan had a double. Lopez had two nice catches in right field.
Juvenile
The Braves beat the Diamondbacks 8-4 behind Austin Miller, who went 2 for 3 with a triple. Billy Golik went 2 for 4 and Mark Maguire went 2 for 3.
The Cubs defeated the Dodgers 10-3. For the Cubs, Christian Molina went 3 for 4 and CJ Rives and Daniel Yucra each went 2 for 3. Michael Levey homered for the Dodgers.
The Cardinals edged the Reds 8-7. For the Cardinals, Doug Halasz went 3 for 3, Alex Urrutia went 2 for 3, Brian Schaeffer went 3 for 4 and Stanton Shaffer tripled.
The Cubs defeated the Pirates 23-6. Sam Berk and Brent Saltzman pitched for the Cubs. Saltzman, Berk and Joey Roy each went 3 for 4 and JP Snow went 2-3.
The Braves shut out the Marlins 12-0. Colin Zarham and Daniel Singer combined for a one-hitter. Austin Miller went 3 for 3 with a triple, double and single. Daniel Singer went 2 for 3 with a triple and double. Wills Flynn also went 2 for 3 and Brandon Thomas delivered a two-run double.
The Nationals defeated the Phillies 14-4 and the Dodgers 22-14. The Cardinals beat the Giants 19-6. The Mets beat the Pirates 12-10. The Diamondbacks beat the Mets 10-5.
Softball III
The Tigers beat the Ducks 5-4 for the division championship.

The second annual Cutler Bay Baseball Bash will be held at Franjo Park and Chapman Field Park on Memorial Day weekend, May 23-26.

6-under
The Dodgers scored six runs in the bottom of the last inning to beat the Red Sox 19-18 for the division championship. Leah Powell made the play of the game at third base to keep the game close and allow the Dodgers offense to perform its last-inning comeback. Every player on the Red Sox team got at least one hit. Brandon Cabrera had three hits, five RBI and scored three runs, Taylor Alvarez went 3 for 3 with three RBI, and Jayden Morales went 3 for 3 with three runs scored.
8-under
The Astros kept their championship hopes alive by defeating the Twins 10-6. Joey Mora and Eliajah Eusebe hit home runs for the Astros. Jonathon Chacon made three outstanding catches in center field. The Twins were led by the pitching of Jose Lombardo and Adrian Parra.
10-under
The Cubs used a three-run triple by Austin Kendrix to beat the Red Sox 14-11 in the first round of the playoffs.
The Orioles beat the Devil Rays 7-4. The Rays jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after two innings, but Danny Worcester, Jeff Slawson and Angelo Boggio combined to pitch the last five innings of shut out baseball for the win. The game was highlighted by two Orioles double plays and outstanding defense. Randy Joseph made two great catches in right field. The Orioles recorded 17 putouts in the field.
12-under
The Phillies defeated the Gators 19-7. The Gators were led by pitchers Alex Palmeiro and Armando Martinez, who each struck out two batters.
14-under: Mets 13-2-1, Dodgers 12-4, Giants 11-4-1, Devil Rays 9-5-2, A's 7-6-2, Hurricanes 7-9, Cardinals 5-11, Marlins 3-11-2, Nationals 0-15.
The Dade Jeep Devil Rays beat the Canes 6-4. Miguel Caba knocked in the Rays' winning runs with an RBI single. Tony Guillen scored twice and had one RBI. Josh Roberts and Danny Matos each had two hits.
The Devil Rays defeated the Nationals 14-3. Josh Roberts and Henry Blackburn each had three hits for the Rays. Miguel Caba added two hits, and Gio Perez had a grand slam and a double. For the Nationals, catcher Alex Moreno caught three runners stealing, and Jason Andalia started a three-run Nationals rally by getting a base hit.
18-under: Dodgers 10-2, Giants 6-6, Red Sox 6-6, Marlins 6-7, Diamondbacks 2-9.
SOFTBALL
Chicks: Marlins 12-5-1, Panthers 9-8-1, Hurricanes 8-10, Lady Bombers 6-12.
The Lady Bombers ended the regular season by defeating the Marlins 5-4. Michelle Ryan had seven strikeouts and went 1 for 3. Ashley Silverman had the game-winning hit in the bottom of the fifth inning. Kailin Brousseau, Natalie Blanco, Daijaa Williams and Sarah Dunn each played well on defense. For the Marlins, Kylan Becker and Vanessa Gonzalez each went 1 for 2, Alyssa Fonda went 2 for 2 with two RBI, and Vicky Bouchard had one RBI.

FOOTBALL
The Kendall Hammocks Warriors tackle football and cheerleading season will have open registration from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 7 and June 21 at Devon Aire Park, 10411 SW 122nd Ave.
The program is for boys and girls ages 5-14. Cost for football is $155 and cheerleading is $145. Parents need to bring a copy of the child's birth certificate and a current picture.
The Kendall Hammocks Warriors are members of the Orange Bowl Youth Football Alliance and charter members of the Miami Xtreme Youth Football League.

KEY BISCAYNE
The Key Biscayne Key Rats Tackle Football program is holding registration for the upcoming 2008 season through May 24 at the Key Biscayne Community Center, 10 Village Green Way.
The Key Rats play in the Miami Xtreme Youth Football League, which is affiliated with the Orange Bowl Youth Football Alliance.
Cost is $250 for kids ages 4-14. Practices begin in July. Season runs from mid-August through early November.

DORAL
The Pico Athletic Club will be hosting its second annual Summer Sports Camp at the Reagan/Doral High School from June 9 to July 25.
Registered boys and girls ages 7-15 will learn proper baseball and basketball fundamentals from an experienced coaching staff.
The six-week clinic will be offered as one-week sessions. Participants will be grouped according to age and ability.
Cost is $175 for the initial week, which includes registration, and $150 per additional weeks. Each participant will receive lunch, a camp T-shirt and various prizes and awards.
