The big news surrounding Formula One this week is the announcement fromSuper Aguri that they are withdrawing from the 2008 FIA Formula One WorldChampionship, effective immediately.Founded by former F1 driver Aguri Suzuki, the team was in its third season onthe Formula One circuit. The Honda-powered Japanese outfit ran into financialtroubles last year, and a planned buyout fell through last month. With driversAnthony Davidson and Takuma Sato, the Super Aguri team had not registered apoint through four races in this year's series.Last season, Felipe Massa recorded his fifth career F1 title, as he clippedKimi Raikkonen by less than three seconds. Massa, who started on the pole forthe second straight year, recorded the last of his three wins in 2007.In 2006, pole sitter Massa cruised to a 5.575 seconds victory over FernandoAlonso for his first career Formula One title. His victory total now stands atsix after winning in Bahrain earlier this year.Back in 2005, Kimi Raikkonen cruised to a 18.606 seconds victory over FernandoAlonso for one of seven victories that season. The pole sitter has capturedthis race all three years of its existence.After four races, Raikkonen owns a nine-point advantage over Lewis Hamilton inthe 2008 Drivers Championship Standings. Raikkonen, with 17 career titles, hastwo wins and four top-10s this season. Hamilton captured the opening race inAustralia and has three top-5s.The Formula One circuit made its inaugural appearance in Turkey at IstanbulPark in 2005. Designed by Herman Tilke, drivers will be circling the 5.333kilometer track, which features 14 corners, 57 times.The next race on the Formula One circuit will be held on May 25th at the GrandPrix of Monaco, where Fernando Alonso captured the 2007 race.05/06 16:26:51 ET
