Northwestern QB Harris gets another award
Former Northwestern quarterback Jacory Harris garnered another national award this week, when he was named to the Old Spice Red Zone Players of the Year.
Harris, who is already enrolled at the University of Miami, has been named the EA Sports National Player of the Year and the Florida Dairy Farmers' Mr. Football Award winner for his performance this season that guided the Bulls to a national championship.
Harris was the only player from South Florida selected to the team.

Miami Springs ready for states: The Miami Springs' girls soccer team overcame a huge hurdle last week beating rival Lourdes 3-0 in regional final play. But the Golden Hawks still face a challenge as they try to win their first state tile since 1988.
''We feel very confident about tomorrow,'' said Springs coach William Drew. ``That was huge a win for our confidence the other night against Lourdes.''
The Golden Hawks (22-2-1) have made the playoffs the past four years but this is the first season they have advance passed the regional final.
The team lost twice to Lourdes and once to Palmetto.
This is the first time under Drew the team has advanced this far in the playoffs.
During the week leading up to Friday's state semifinal game against Oviedo High, Drew brought a collection of proven winners to speak with the team.
Drew asked St. Thomas University's boys' soccer coach Feliks Mats -- a player on several University of Indiana national championship teams -- ex-Central football coach Anthony Saunders and Claudia Hernandez -- a member of the 1988 Springs championship team. ''I am trying to surround them with winners. . . . a few people who have been there and done that,'' Drew said.
Springs is going to need their ''big three'' to play their best if the hope to win a state title.
Team captain Allie Llaneras, sophomore phenom Abby Carr and Holly Bain have led the team with a combined 151 goals on the season compared to opponent Oviedo's 69. Llaneras leads the team with 41 goals and has 142 career scores.
Along with ferocious goal scoring the team also has experience and a great team chemistry.
''We're just have a good mix of kids,'' Drew said. ``We play great together, just a good match, good player at all the positions.''
