Pines Charter stays undefeated

Pembroke Pines Charter softball is used to this by now.

The Jaguars won their own Speedball tournament, then traveled to Orange County, Calif., and won the Nike Faster to First Classic.

Still, that didn't stop Wednesday's game against fellow powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas from being what Jaguars coach Tom Fadul called ''a barn-burner'' -- one that featured eight innings, and just one run.

That run went to Pines Charter, with the hosts staying undefeated after their 1-0, extra-innings victory.

The scoreless tie was broken in the bottom of the eighth when Kandyce Redondo singled and starting pitcher Audrey Broyles doubled her to third. Lauren Sewell sealed the victory with a sacrifice fly -- also earning herself the win.

Sewell (9-0) struck out six in four innings after entering the game in relief of Broyles, who also went four innings.

At the plate, Broyles went 3 for 4, with her eighth-inning double, and Redondo went 2 for 3.

''It was great,'' Fadul said. ``I wish they all were like that.''

The victory moved Pines Charter to 19-0 and dropped the Raiders to 18-2. Lauren Kramer took the loss for St. Thomas Aquinas.

The Jaguars will play in next week's Kissimmee Klassic tournament.
