Columbus, Lourdes win titles at track meet
Columbus and Lourdes took home the team championships of the second annual Falcon Track and Field Invitational at Ferguson High on Saturday afternoon.
Cristina Brea won three events to lead the Bobcats to the girls' championship as Lourdes edged the host Falcons by 12 points. Brea, a sophomore, won the 1,600 (5:22.71) and 3,200 meters (11:45.77), and also won the high jump (4-10). Lourdes also won the 3,200-meter relay in a meet-record time of 9:57.61.
Coral Gables' Ashlee Adams was the only other girls' double winner, securing victories in the 100 meters in 12.68 seconds and the 200 meters (26.30). The Cavaliers also won the 400- and 1,600-meter relays.
Columbus dominated the boys' meet, winning 10 of the 16 events. Carlos Reyna won the 100 in 10.64 seconds and the 200 meters in 22.15 seconds to lead the Explorers.
Ferguson, which finished as the runner-up, had a pair of double winners. Joshua Estrada won the 1,600 (4:34.65) and 3,200 meters (10:19.80), and Ben Zedler won the long jump (19-7) and triple jump (43-10).
