PARIS -- There is just something about the international stage that seems to bring out the best in Heat guard Dwyane Wade.
Before Thursday's exhibition game, Wade said he felt obligated to put on a show for the global audience. He delivered in vintage form during a 100-98 overtime loss to the New Jersey Nets at Bercy Arena.
The teams meet again Sunday in London in the second of two exhibition matchups as part of the NBA's Europe Live Tour.
Wade scored 18 of his 21 points in the first half and provided several acrobatic layups and dunks that brought a near-capacity crowd of 14,532 to its feet. Wade also had five rebounds, three assists and two steals in 21 minutes. He did not play after the third quarter.
But Wade, who led the U.S. team to a gold medal at the Olympics in Beijing, shared the affection of the French crowd with teammate and Paris native Yakhouba Diawara. Diawara was cheered from the moment he addressed the crowd in French before the game until he left with nine points, three rebounds and two steals in a team-high 36 minutes.
''You want to do well and show your appreciation for the fans across the world who love this game,'' Wade said.
Wade did enough during a 10-point third quarter to give the Heat a double-digit lead. But Miami saw its 12-point lead turn into a double-digit deficit in the fourth quarter.
Second-overall draft pick Michael Beasley took over the scoring load after Wade left. Beasley matched Wade with 21 points.
Behind Beasley, the Heat came back and tied the score at 91 on Daequan Cook's jumper with 18.3 seconds left to send Miami into overtime for the second time in as many exhibition games. But Cook missed a three-point attempt with 1.9 seconds left in overtime that could have won the game.
Miami has not won an exhibition game since 2006. Devin Harris scored 21 points to lead a Nets team that played the second half without catalyst Vince Carter, who strained his left hamstring in the second quarter while guarding Wade.
First-year coach Erik Spoelstra entered the game expecting improvement at two positions of concern for the Heat, which has yet to see clear-cut starters emerge at point guard or center.
Injuries had already decimated the Heat's options at point guard before the game, and the team took a hit at center during Thursday's loss. Jamaal Magloire fractured a bone in his left hand in the third quarter and is out indefinitely. There's a chance Magloire could leave the team and travel back to Miami for surgery.
Magloire was signed last month to compete for the starting job alongside Mark Blount, who is now the lone healthy center on the roster with extensive playing experience.
Magloire, who was scoreless with two steals and two rebounds in 17 minutes, now joins an injured list that also includes Udonis Haslem (foot), James Jones (wrist), Dorell Wright (knee) and Chris Quinn (ankle). Blount had six points and five rebounds in 23 minutes.
After the game, the Heat said Magloire will not go to London on Friday. He was taken to a local hospital to confirm X-ray results taken at the arena during the game.
Spoelstra said the team's foul problems and inability to rebound consistently are primary concerns. ''Those were the biggest breakdowns,'' he said. ``We need to be a better defensive team.''
With Quinn and Livingston out at point guard, Spoelstra was able to get an extended look at Marcus Banks and Mario Chalmers.
Banks, a backup throughout his five-year career, started Thursday alongside Wade, Diawara, Shawn Marion and Blount. But Banks and Chalmers combined for 10 fouls, 10 assists and nine turnovers.
