FORMER MIAMI HIGH
WR RAYMOND HONORED
Paul Raymond was part of the most forgettable season in Miami High history when the Stingarees went 0-10 in 2003. In college, however, Raymond continues to garner accolades worth remembering.
Raymond was named a CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Second Team Academic All-American at Brown University.
Raymond, a wide receiver, finished his career as the sixth-best all-time leader in receiving yards (1,800 yards) at Brown and sixth in career receptions with 116. He ranked second in the Ivy League and ninth in the nation with 97.8 receiving yards. Raymond, an Economics major, was also named an Academic All-American.
OUT-OF-STATE GAMES
SHAKE UP POLLS
At least one publication has moved a team ahead of Miami Northwestern.
RISE Magazine, which was the first to rank the Bulls with the nation's top spot at the start of the season, ranked Cincinnati's St. Xavier High ahead of Northwestern. St. Xavier finished its season 15-0 and won the Ohio Division I state championship by beating Mentor High 27-0.
The Bombers won their second state crown in three years behind running back Darius Ashley, a Louisville commitment who ran for a state championship-record 271 yards and two touchdowns on 36 carries.
Northwestern, which entered Friday's game on a 28-game winning streak, is still ranked No. 1 by every other national poll.
The change at the top was likely influenced by Texas' Southlake Carroll season-ending loss in the Texas state playoffs last week. The Dragons, who had their 49-game winning streak snapped earlier this season by Northwestern, were eliminated by rival Abilene High 22-21 in the regional semifinals.
Another out-of-state opponent familiar to South Florida fans lost in its state championship game last week. South Carolina Summerville was blown out by Byrnes High in the state's Division I playoffs 48-9.
Booker T. Washington defeated Summerville 36-3 in a nationally-televised game to start the regular season.
