Regarding the debate about parking for the proposed Sunkist Pineland Park near Southwest 64th Street and 84th Avenue, the issue clearly boils down to one question: Do Miami-Dade's leaders want our parks to be private and only for the privileged few, or do we want truly public parks, serving the common good?

Miami-Dade County Elections Department invites registered voters to earn extra money while helping others in the community exercise their right to vote by becoming a poll worker. Several positions are available with earnings ranging from $145 to $278. Poll workers are compensated for training, opening procedures the day prior to the election (depending on position held), election days worked. To work in the upcoming Primary Election of Aug. 26, candidates must apply by June 30.

And now the rest of the story . . . Sunkist Pineland Park was designated a ''park'' when lots were platted in the area of Southwest 64th Street and 84th Avenue. The small park sits on 0.77 of an acre of land and has never been appropriately developed by our county.
Through the large glass windows of Great Florida Bank in Little Havana, passersby could see dozens of multicolored children's drawings and people dancing to salsa music.
