There would be special assemblies and visiting speakers who would tell us the stories of how they ``got over.&amp;#39;&amp;#39; This was important, because in our American History books back then, there was little mention of the Africans who came to America as slave, or of the contributions they made to their ``adopted&amp;#39;&amp;#39; homeland.
