Places of worship should create a security plan, have their members practice and update that plan and know who to call when they need help from police or firefighters.

    Police reports from local municipalities

    MIAMI BEACH A man stole a briefcase from a hallway at Hotel Victor, 1144 Ocean Dr., after entering through an unlocked rear door at 1:30 a.m. May 8. Hotel security confronted him and told him to leave before realizing the briefcase belonged to a hotel guest. The stolen briefcase contained a cellphone, clothes, supplements, a checkbook and a wallet together valued at $634 and $200 cash.

    As usual, the government of Miami Beach is putting its own selfish interests ahead of the general welfare of the community. In recent weeks, there has been much discussion in City Hall about the goings on in the Building and Planning departments. The last few times the city commissioners met, they discussed a number of options to remedy the situations in these departments. And once again, bringing in auditors, outside consultants, and forming new committees are some of the ideas suggested.

    Why would a Roman Catholic cardinal visit a Miami Beach synagogue? The reason was very clear to Adam Haas, a 17-year-old Jewish teen whose synagogue, Temple Beth Sholom, hosted Cardinal William Keeler's visit Tuesday evening.
