Voting dates and districts on Sunny Isles ballot

Sunny Isles Beach voters will be asked to redraw the city's voting districts and change the city's election dates -- the latter change giving the current mayor and commissioners an extra year in office.

    Aventura ready to crack down on red-light runners

    Starting Wednesday, Aventura will give drivers 90 days to get adjusted to the city's new automated ticketing system for red-light runners. During the warning period, which will run through Oct. 10, mounted cameras will capture images and video of red-light violations, and warning notices will be sent to the vehicle owners. The camera takes two pictures, one in the front of the light and when the vehicle is crossing the intersection. Video footage will be available online.

    Aventura taxes stay same, but new projects may hold

    Aventura's tax rate will stay the same next year under a preliminary budget approved by the city commission Thursday. No services are being cut, City Manager Eric Soroka said, even though the city's taxable property value is dropping 1.7 percent, to $9.44 billion compared to the last budget year's $9.61 billion.
