Students from Pembroke Pines FSU Charter Elementary School raised $6,000 for the American Heart Association at the school's recent fifth annual Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser. Money came from parents and family friends who pledged funds to student participants in the jump rope marathon led by physical education teacher Robert Lee.

Top donors were students Sierra Williams, Anthony Bombadiere and Kaitlin Morgan. The activity followed weeks of learning about heart-healthy diets and fitness.

WANTED: 25 TEACHERS FOR WELLNESS PROGRAM

Pembroke Pines chiropractor Robert Kustin is seeking 25 local teachers to participate for free in a new wellness and weight-loss program called Real Age Body Challenge. Based on physical factors including blood pressure, body mass index, resting heart rate, strength and flexibility, Kustin and the program's co-founder, holistic health counselor Stacey Weckstein of Weston, will first measure each teacher's biological age against chronological age to determine a course of action. Ideal candidates are those 10 to 100 pounds overweight who have experienced difficulty dieting in the past.

HALLANDALE HIGH

ALUMNI HOST SCHOLARSHIP GOSPEL BENEFIT

The Hallandale High Alumni & Friends Association will host the eighth annual Chester A. Byrd Scholarship Gospel Benefit at 5 p.m. Saturday at Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church, 816 NW First Ave., Hallandale Beach.

Led by association president and 1978 Hallandale High graduate Qunea Gordon, the event will feature local gospel groups, honor church pastors throughout the community and recognize the 30th reunion of 1978 graduates and the silver anniversary of the class of 1983.

SHERIDAN PARK ELEMENTARY

SCHOOL CELEBRATES ITS 40TH BIRTHDAY

Fun is the order of the day starting at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Sheridan Park Elementary School in Hollywood when teachers, students and staff celebrate the school's 40th birthday.

Teacher Janet Kleid will be honored as an original staff member, fifth-graders will perform a skit called All About Sheridan Park and first-grade students will sing Children in the 20th Century.

Billy the Marlin and Stanley C. Panther are expected for cameo appearances during the day, declared by the city of Hollywood as Sheridan Park Day.
