SILVER KNIGHT AWARDS

Knight rewards youths who excel

A proud fraternity of brainy and charitable people will welcome a new class to its ranks on Tuesday.

Fifteen outstanding Miami-Dade high school seniors will be named Silver Knight Award winners, joining the 15 Broward seniors who won the honor last month and the hundreds who have come before them.

Now in its 50th year, the Silver Knight program highlights exceptional students who are standouts in their community service and academic achievements.

Many past winners came to South Florida this weekend for Tuesday's awards ceremony and an alumni luncheon.

The awards will be handed out at 7 p.m. at the Ziff Ballet Opera House at the Arsht Center for the Performing Arts.

The ceremony will be rebroadcast at 7 p.m. May 30 and at 1 p.m. June 1 on WLRN-Ch. 17, and at 2:30 p.m. July 6 on WBFS-MY33.
