Michael Putney
Michael Putney is the political and governmental reporter for Miami's ABC affiliate, WPLG-Channel 10, where he also hosts This Week in South Florida with Michael Putney. A native New Yorker, he is a graduate of the University of Missouri. He worked as a reporter for the Dow Jones weekly The National Observer, was a writer for Time Inc. and came to Miami in 1977 to work for The Miami Herald. He joined WTVJ in 1981 and in 1989 moved to WPLG. He has won numerous awards in his career, including two Emmys for reporting and commentary.

I’m sure you’ll be as relieved as I was to learn that four — count ’em four — small businesses in Liberty City will soon get their facades spruced up thanks to $428,545 of taxpayers’ money. It’s small change compared to the millions, nay hundreds of millions, poured into Liberty City since the 1980 McDuffie riots, but still worth our attention.

But the Book Fair has gone a long way toward cementing our reputation as a destination for more than beautiful beaches, exciting night life and fruity rum drinks with little umbrellas. All of which authors who come to the Book Fair enjoy, along with us locals.
