Sister Jeanne O'Laughlin, Barry University chancellor and former president, is in Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, recovering from surgery to replace her left hip. Dr. William LeoneJr. operated April 23.
O'Laughlin says she's feeling better and will eventually have the other hip done. She's in physical therapy four times a day, and uses a walker.
''I can't complain,'' says O'Laughlin, who underwent treatment for lung cancer in 1996. ``The Lord has been good to me.''
O'Laughlin, South Florida's best-known nun, turns 79 on Sunday. She expects to go home in a few days.
MONEY MATTERS
Former Broward County Sheriff Ken Jenne, who went to federal prison in November after pleading guilty to mail fraud conspiracy and tax charges, is fighting for his pension -- at least $130,474.20 a year.
Jenne's attorney, Mark Herron, is appealing the state's ``action to forfeit retirement benefits.''
Jenne, 61, is serving his one-year and one-day term at a minimum-security camp in Jonesville, W.Va. He is set for release on Sept. 29. On Oct. 14 and 15, an administrative law judge will hold a hearing in Fort Lauderdale. Attorneys for the Department of Management Services' retirement division will argue that Jenne must forgo his pension because his crimes were job-related.
Herron says Florida law specifies crimes such as embezzling and bribery that call for pension forfeiture, but Jenne's felonies aren't on that list.
Jenne, an attorney and a former state senator, is suspended from The Florida Bar.
FOOD FARE
Lee Brian Schrager, founder and director of the South Beach Wine & Food Festival, just inked a six-figure deal to write a book about it. Publisher is Clarkson Potter, an imprint of Random House's Crown Publishing Group. Other Clarkson Potter authors include Martha Stewart, Ina Garten, Rachael Ray, Ingrid Hoffmann, Giada De Laurentiis, and Ed Begley Jr.
Schrager, 48, a former caterer who is Southern Wine & Spirits' special events and media relations director, says it is due out in 2011 to coincide with the festival's 10th year. ''A lot of pictures, a lot of recipes, a lot of fun stories,'' he says. Working title: Sizzling Hot.
Next Saturday, the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce honors Schrager, along with Loews Hotels chairman and CEO Jonathan Tisch and the Galbut Family, at a gala at Loews Miami Beach Hotel.
GONE MISSING
Speaking of the SoBe Loews . . . recent guest Angelo Crowell of the Buffalo Bills told Beach cops that someone stole a $40,000 custom-made necklace -- white gold, with a cross -- and a $22,000 Curtis & Co. gold watch from his room.
Happened last weekend. Crowell, 26, left the jewelry on a table when he went out that Friday at about 10 p.m. Officer Sergio Campos' report does not say what time Crowell returned, just that he realized the items were missing when he woke up Saturday.

The sixth is Carolyn Cefalo, 66, a longtime University of Miami School of Communication faculty member who taught broadcast production. She retired Dec. 31.
They'll receive a ''Silver Circle Award'' for making ``significant contributions to television over a period of 25 years or more.''
