2 arrested in Deerfield after high-speed chase

Three men who allegedly robbed a Boynton Beach Burger King at gunpoint fled from police in a 14-mile, high-speed pursuit on Interstate 95 with bullets flying, before two of the suspects were arrested in Deerfield Beach, The Palm Beach Post reported.

One bullet hit a Florida Highway Patrol chase car but did not injure the trooper, police said.

Boynton Beach police arrived at the scene of an armed robbery at a Burger King on Woolbright Road and Southwest Eighth Street around 8:40 p.m., according to department Sgt. Suzanne Gitto. Three armed, masked men had entered the restaurant and demanded money, two of them jumping the counter and one pointing a gun at an employee's head, Boynton Beach Police spokeswoman Stephanie Slater said.

They left with an unknown amount of cash and ran to a getaway car near a Home Depot within the shopping center, along the way firing two shots at a moving car. ''It's unknown why they fired at that car,'' Slater told The Post, adding no one was hit.

The suspects fled south on I-95, with police in pursuit, ditching the car in the area of Hillsboro Boulevard and Dixie Highway in Deerfield Beach.

The three men took off running, with K-9 units and a helicopter searching for them. One Boynton Beach Police officer fired at one suspect, but ''it is unknown if the suspects were hit,'' Slater said.

The Broward Sheriff's Office joined Boynton Beach police on the search, according to Miami Herald news partner CBS4.
