A teacher at Miami Southridge Senior High School is accused of molesting a 14-year-old former student, police said.
Frank Matthew Galatas, 28, was arrested Tuesday and charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious battery on a minor.
Galatas was a first-year history teacher at the Miami-Dade public school, said district spokesman John Schuster.
Two years ago, Galatas and the student became friends, Miami police said. The student's mother, a single parent, embraced the mentorship because she thought her son could use a good male role model, police said.
On Oct. 17, Galatas asked the mother whether he could sleep at their house because he was having marital problems, police said. According to the arrest warrant, Galatas that night slept next to the student. Galatas told the victim take off his pants and then performed oral sex on the 14-year-old, the warrant states.
Days later, the victim went to Galatas' house. Again, Galatas told him to take off his pants and performed oral sex on him, police said.
On his Amazon.com profile, Galatas described himself as a former religion and history major at University of Miami who considered himself ``a servant of God called to clarify God's word in a lost world filled with deception.''
