U.S. Department of Education Deputy Secretary Tony Miller surveys a third-grade classroom at Fairlawn Elementary. Miller visited the school in November to tout President Obama's jobs legislation, and discuss how aging schools such as Fairlawn can benefit from modernizing, which would also put people to work, according to the president. The school, at 444 SW 60th Ave., is in serious need of structural upgrades, says Principal Amelia Leth.
