MOTHER'S DAY
I want to be an actress, too!
Posted on Sun, May. 11, 2008
It's not unusual for daughters to follow in their mothers' footsteps. But when the elder's career involves being a famous movie star, sometimes it's a hard act to follow.
Since they have different last names it's often hard to tell who's who. Here's our Top 10 illustrious pairings.
Kate Hudson, 29/Goldie Hawn, 62
People's Most Beautiful cover girl got noticed for her turn as a groupie in 2000's AlmostFamous. Ironic name. Owen Wilson's rumored paramour is officially famous now. But mom remains America's comedic sweetheart. Dad was writer Bill Hudson, whom Hawn divorced when Kate was a baby.
Worked together: No.
Gwyneth Paltrow, 35/
Blythe Danner, 65
Gwynie looked ready to eclipse mom, known for her roles as restrained WASPs, back in 1998 when she won an Oscar for Shakespeare in Love, but life has blissfully slowed down for Mrs. Chris Martin since she had two kids, Apple and Moses. Dad was producer Bruce Paltrow, who died from oral cancer in 2002.
Worked together: Sylvia and a few TV movies
Mamie Gummer, 24/Meryl Streep, 58
Talk about tough shoes to fill. Streep has won, like, a gazillion Oscars and continues to work nonstop (her next gig: Julia Child in Julie & Julia), Let's hope Mamie, whose dad is sculptor Don Gummer, inherited the gift of mimicking.
Worked together: Heartburn, House of the Spirits, Evening
Eva Amurri, 23/Susan Sarandon, 61
Eva, a Brown graduate, has already appeared in over a dozen films. The rising star -- with already more than 300,000 hits on Google -- has mom's soulful eyes and sexy build. Dad is Italian director Franco Amurri (Flashback); stepdad is Tim Robbins, who put Eva in her first role -- 1990's Bob Roberts, as a baby.
Worked together: Anywhere But Here, Banger Sisters, Dead Man Walking; currently filming Middle of Nowhere
Demi Moore, 45/Rumer Willis, 19
Rumer's a regular on Perez Hilton's site because of her penchant for attending openings of envelopes. Good news: Stepdad is Ashton Kutcher. Bad news: She inherited dad Bruce Willis' looks. See her next in The House Bunny, with Colin Hanks, Tom's son.
Worked together: Now & Then, Striptease
Addendum: Demi appeared with her other daughters, Scout LaRue, 16, and Tallulah Belle, 14, in 1995's Scarlet Letter.
Jamie Lee Curtis, 49/Janet Leigh, 77
Curtis, who first got noticed in the horror flick Halloween, inherited great lungs from mom, who famously screamed her head off in Psycho's shower scene. Now's she's doing Activia commercials and is almost completely gray. Yikes! Dad is legendary actor Tony Curtis, whom Leigh divorced in '62.
Worked together: The Fog, Halloween: H20
Mariska Hargitay, 44/
Jayne Mansfield (died at 34)
Daughter is best known as Olivia Hudson on Law & Order: SVU; mother was a famous 1950s sex symbol. Mariska was in the 1967 car accident that killed her mother. Her dad, Mr. Universe Mickey Hargitay, died in 2006.
Worked together: Never.
Melanie Griffith, 49/Tippi Hedren, 78
Dad is former actor Peter Griffith, whom Tippi divorced when Melanie was 4. Griffith, who got an Oscar nod for Working Girl, is probably more famous than Hedren, who is best known for her classic turn in The Birds. She's now a full-time animal activist.
Worked together: 1981's Roar, The Harrad Experiment, Pacific Heights
ALL IN THE FAMILY:
Joely Fisher, 41/
Connie Stevens, 69
Carrie Fisher, 51/Debbie Reynolds, 76
Real Hollywood kids, half-sisters Joely and Carrie share the same dad, singer Eddie Fisher (he left Debbie for Liz Taylor). Joely currently stars in Fox's Til Death with Brad Garrett; Carrie will eternally be best known as Princess Leia in Star Wars.
Joely worked with mom in the forgettable TV series Wild Card; Carrie cast her mother in TV's These Old Broads, which she wrote.
