Small town doc: I practiced in Trussville, Ala., a small town outside of Birmingham. I lived there about 30 years and I was the only doctor in town for a long time.

Batter up: As a kid I played basketball, baseball and softball. I just joined a softball league. I don't know if I'll keep up, but I'll try.

Like Rocky: I do stretches, push-ups, sit-ups and leg lifts and I jog five miles every day. Memorial Regional Hospital has a parking garage with five stories. Once a week, I run those stairs twice.

Making music: I'm the personnel manager for the Sunrise Symphonic Pops Orchestra and I play for the Hallandale Symphonic Pops Orchestra and the North Miami Concert Band. I play flute, piccolo, saxophone, clarinet, oboe and English horn. I guess you might call it a second career.

Getting dirty: I was the handyman at my condo for nine years, but I got a reprieve. The boards have to put up with so much. After nine years it got kind of bothersome.

Eating to live: I'm not at all careful about my diet, but I try not to eat breakfast and lunch. That has kept me from getting fat without really getting hungry.

Guilty pleasure: I enjoy practicing my instruments. Is that a guilty pleasure?
