MIAMI STORIES

If you want Miami stories told on the silver screen, then you may need Miami screenwriters to create them.

That's the driving principle behind the Entertainment Industry Incubator's Miami Filmmaker Project, a program for media artists based in South Florida and anchored by a series of workshops.

Feature projects and the writers selected for the 2009 Screenwriters Lab include:

All-American ( Lolita Stewart-White) -- A competitive sprinter struggles to come to terms with his Haitian roots.

Born & Raised ( Nicholas Loritsch) -- A young man in the blue-collar South finds his way with the help of his well-traveled outlaw of a grandfather and the multicultural community of family and friends that surrounds them.

Crossing Paths ( David Nguah) -- A woman survives the Holocaust and moves to Miami Beach where she experiences love and racial bigotry.

Devil's Opus ( Rolando Vinas) -- A teen musical prodigy discovers he is a clone of Beethoven and battles his contemporaries for the love of a girl.

Loss of Innocence ( Eric Gaunaurd) -- As a Cuban family makes the difficult decision to send their children alone to the United States during the Communist revolution, they struggle to overcome insurmountable obstacles to escape the island and reunite with their children.

The Screenwriters Lab is divided into two segments: First, scripts are critiqued and rewritten; next, they are polished and prepared for finding partners for producing, directing and investment.
