Most Seraphic Fire performances showcase the choir as a collective, but this weekend's season-closing program, Music for Kings, will present Seraphic Fire members in the solo spotlight in opera and oratorio arias by Handel and Mozart. Patrick Dupré Quigley will lead the singers and a chamber orchestra in arias and choruses from Israel in Egypt, The Magic Flute, Don Giovanni, The Marriage of Figaro and other works. Performances are 7:30 p.m. Friday at Coral Gables Congregational Church, 536 Coral Way, Coral Gables; 8 p.m. Saturday at All Saints Episcopal Church, 333 Tarpon Dr., Fort Lauderdale; and 4 p.m. Sunday at Miami Beach Community Church, 1620 Drexel Ave., Miami Beach. The versatile Richard Stoltzman returns this weekend for an eclectic mix of classical and jazz, presented by Sunday Afternoons of Music. Backed by his son, pianist Peter Stoltzman, the celebrated clarinetist will offer Bernstein's Clarinet Sonata and songs from West Side Story, Debussy's Premiere Rhapsody, Messiaen's L'Abime des oiseaux, and music of Gershwin, Ellington and Monk. Concert time is 4 p.m. at Gusman Concert Hall, 1314 Miller Dr., Coral Gables. Tickets are $40, $32 for seniors and $10 for students;Ticketmaster or www.sundaymusicals.org.
The Colony Theater will play host to two operatic events this weekend. The singers of Florida Grand Opera's Young Artist Studio -- several of whom are featured in the company's current Julius Caesar -- will perform arias from Handel to Weill at 8 p.m. Friday. Miami Lyric Opera will present Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor in two performances at 8 p.m. Saturday and May 24 at the Colony with a cast including Darryn Zimmer, Jorge Pita, Tom Hall and Daniel Snodgrass. The Mainly Mozart Festival, featuring a wide array of chamber music, continues through June 29 in Coral Gables. Sunday's program will span two centuries with the Bergonzi String Quartet and pianist Tao Lin teaming up for Mozart's Eine kleine Nachtmusik and Shostakovich's Piano Quintet.
