Art Pick | 'Outsider, an inside art'

There's heart-felt artistic innocence in the works of people who struggle with mental illness. They create to express unresolved feelings of alienation and longings without regards to artistic conventions, movements or market trends. As a result, their works often deliver moving, raw testimony of the human condition. You can see a sampling of 50 such works at the Miami Center for Photographic Arts, which is hosting the exhibit Outsider, an inside art, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the international organization, NAEMI, which stands for National Art Exhibitions by the Mentally Ill. The organization is dedicated to discovering, promoting and exhibiting the work of artists with mental illness. All proceeds from sales of the works will benefit NAEMI.

Outsider, an inside art runs through May 27 at Miami Center for the Photographic Arts, 1601 SW First St.; 305-649-9575.
